    What does the robin, Antigo silt loam, and the Wisconsin Waltz all have in common? They are all official symbols of the state of Wisconsin.

    In 2001, the State Legislature listened to the recording of the Wisconsin Waltz by the Gary Kuchenbecker band (from the CD "Music In The Grand Tradition") when they decided to vote on making the song the official state Waltz.

    The radio show changed its format and station. Gary had been hosting a taped polka show on WTCH-AM, and a live big band request show on WOWN-FM. The shows combined into one broadcast, and moved to WJMQ-FM.

    As an experiment, Gary started hosting a live big band request show on Memorial Day weekend of 1985 on WOWN-FM. The plan was for the show to only go for the summer, but it was an instant hit and became a weekly show before the summer ended.
